What Would You Like to Ask The Mayoral Candidates?

Hardy now has just two candidates for mayor.  Friends Of Hardy Arkansas  is preparing a questionnaire for both of them. We want to ask them specific, pointed questions about what they would do as mayor to address the needs of Hardy. Some areas we will be asking about are in regards to public safety, public works, transparency and accountability in government, as well as their vision of the  City of Hardy’s future and growth.

We need your help! Please use the comment section below and tell us what you want to ask the mayoral candidates. We expect our questionnaires will go out to them around September 20, and we are asking the candidates to provide their responses by September 30. We’ll start posting the responses on our site, here at www.mainstreethardy.com and other sites as soon as they come in.

We look forward to hearing from you, and we need your ideas no later than  Sept 15. We look forward to your requested questions below in our comments section and will select the top ones along with some of our own to submit to the candidates.

This is all part of Friends Of Hardy Arkansas (FOHA) vision of bringing “Unity In The Community” and citizen participation is a top priorty.

I would speculate that Hardy’s major industry is directly related to tourism. What specifically would you do to promote this vital industry in Hardy. What about having signs..maybe 1/2 mile apart when approaching Hardy,,,saying something like this ” 22 1/2 miles to Hardy..the Antique capital of Arkansas…….21 miles to Hardy…where if you mention this sign you get a 10 percent discount at Joes……..20 miles to Hardy…where the most delicious meal can be had at Mary’s……19 miles to Hardy…home of the most unique book store in Northeast Arkansas,,,17 miles to Hardy..home of the most unique craft store with a Siberian Husky as the store’s manager,…16 miles to Hardy where there is usually weekend entertainment Maybe the signs can be obtained through joint ventures…the City, County, business, Arkansas Tourism, sponsorships, etc, Yes, I think that having Main Street wireless is a step in the right direction.

What is your vision of Hardy, AR. 5, 10 & 20 years down the road. And what steps do you plan to take as the Mayor to work toward that vision?

  • Kevin says:

How and in what way do plan to work with the local business leaders in future decisions that directly effect the Main Street business district area?

  • Don Spillman says:

I would like to thank the Mayor, for being so nice to all of us,from out of State.
Any time I call,I get a reply, and I do not live there,I live in Michigan.
    Others say the same thing.
    Thank you Mayor.

This is my first time to try this out. However, I would like to ask. What do you plan to do in order to know what the locals really want or need – the ones who live in Hardy full time. How do you know their true needs?

  • Hal says:

I got a simple one, What is the main difference between you and your opponent?

  • stikmon says:

My question focus’ on the economy….what are the candidates vision of Hardy economically. A thriving downtown district lends itself to the creation of a vibrant community. What goals and plans do the candidates have to re-invigorate our downtown historic district.

A goal without a plan is strictly a wish. Lets leave wishmaking to others more qualified and focus on planning and execution of said plan.

    1) As a mayor in the ‘Natural State’, what will you do to take Hardy ‘green’, and thereby potentially create a profit center whereever there is a solar panel?

    2) Do you realize that Hardy can save and make money by going green?
and if so, what will you do to make it happen? Grants are out there, only to be tapped by experienced grant writers for Hardy. Will you seek green grants and at what level of priority in your new administration?

    3) What will you do to place ‘dog stations’ like those in Loberg Park on Main Street, and end the use Main Street and side streets as one big dog run for tourists who let their animals defecate anywhere they choose in the name of ‘I spend my money here so it is OK?

    4) What will you do to change the model of our town government to one that is more user friendly for the citizens with power and control less centralized in the office of the mayor? One example is to have ‘open mic’ for a limited time at the end of every public meeting, allowing for spontaneous public participation without having to be ‘on the agenda’ (whose agenda..?) Power corrupts as we all know from both theory and experience. And if the people lead, the leaders will follow.

    5) What will you do to create more attractive signage on the bypass and the highway to let folks know Hardy is here?

    6) What will you do to create more genuine rapport between the local government and the Main Street organization, for which there is sore need right now?
