The town of Hardy and I have known each other for many years and I love coming to town and watching the people enjoy its' wonders. Two weeks ago I sat on a bench with my 84 year old dad and watched with amazement the amount of traffic traveling through main street. As one who has been in law enforcement for over 35 years why does the city allow 18 wheelers to travel through town when the State spent millions building the by pass.
Also one would think since TOURIST are KEY TO HARDY SURVIVAL the city leaders would look into providing WELL MARKED CROSSWALKS in at least two places and also REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT within the immediate shopping area. I believe that a well posted sign at both ends of town and a strict enforcement of the LAW in using the by pass by TRUCKERs would do two thing . One provide a much safer SHOPPING AREA FOR TOURIST AND GENERATE REVENUE for the City from lazy Truckers. PRIORITY ONE SHOULD BE THE SAFETY OF THE TOURIST (this where the city gets its money so you should protect the best way you can) Merchants should require the city to take action now during the money making season. Just my thoughts. Anyone else think this needs to happen.

I agree, maybe calling the Mayor's office or the Police department and asking why they don't take action when the trucks drive through Main Street. Unless they legally don't have any action to take. I know we have a TRUCK BYPASS, but does the other say NO TRUCKS ALLOWED?

As for the crosswalks, they have them, maybe they need some new bright paint and some reflectors too !!!

How about reducing the speed limit and add two small speed bumps. That would discourage truckers and cars that are going to fast on main street. I just don't want to see people getting hurt for the lack of action that could be taken before hand. And restriping the parking and crosswalks each year when the tourist season starts would be a great idea. Would show the city cares about the safety of the tourist. Also people remember these things and talk about to friends and associates. Helps promote the city's image.

There is much room for improvement, no doubt. All of these ideas are worth merit and should be heard and focused upon. I've been a witness to many things that have caused destruction of personal property and near serious accidents involving pedestrians and moving vehicles. Recently I witnessed an ambulance on call go ripping down main St at a speed that makes me shudder, lights and sirens fully engaged and blasting. They nearly ran down an older woman who couldn't move fast enough. The truck route is the way ambulances on call should go. There's NO pedestrians, no children, no vehicles to dodge and 4 lanes to run rampant on. Main sT is NO place for ANY high speed vehicle or trucks to drive on.
oh well…just my $.02 What do I know, I'm just a shop keeper, but as always, We Appreciate You.
