Hi, I’m Steve Hunnicutt.  My wife and I have been business owners in Hardy for over thirty years.  We have seen many folks come and go who have tried to get a business going in Hardy.  Here are some pointers for anyone trying to open and run a successful business anywhere, especially in such a small town as Hardy, where news travels fast, whether it is good or bad.

So a word to the wise: Observe the 10 Commandments of good business to insure a good run.  A happy customer  is one who will return.

A CUSTOMER:

  1. IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PERSON IN ANY BUSINESS.
  2.  IS NOT DEPENDENT ON US.  WE ARE DEPENDENT ON THEM.
  3.  IS NOT AN INTERRUPTION OF OUR WORK.  THEY ARE THE PURPOSE FOR IT.
  4. IS PART OF OUR BUSINESS, NOT AN OUTSIDER.
  5. IS NOT A COLD STATISTIC. HE OR SHE IS A FLESH-AND-BLOOD HUMAN WITH
FEELINGS AND EMOTIONS LIKE OUR OWN.
  6. IS NOT SOMEONE TO ARGUE OR MATCH WITS WITH.
  7. IS A PERSON WHO BRINGS US THEIR WANTS; IT IS OUR JOB TO FILL THOSE WANTS.
  8. IS DERSERVING OF THE MOST COURTEOUS AND ATTENTIVE TREATMENT WE CAN GIVE THEM.
  9. IS THE LIFE-BLOOD OF THIS AND EVERY OTHER BUSINESS.
  10. IS THE ‘OTHER’ IN THE GOLDEN RULE OF ‘DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD
    HAVE THEM DO TO YOU.

Why even offer Free WiFi (muniwireless) along Main Street in Hardy Arkansas?  The only  thing that retains value is what the local community is willing to invest in terms of their interest and content. If local businesses, organizations, civic groups and schools  in the local community, in short, are willing to create local content for the local network, post local ads, if they see the service as part of the fabric of the community. That is part of the idea of Free muniwirelessWiFi, because our idea – would first point all users to the Main Street Hardy Online Resource website. This then helps promote not only the town but the local merchants and community as well. Is this self serving? Not really, its self promoting of our town ! Besides, if we don’t do it, no one else will.

No one can provide better local content or advertise better to the local community than the community itself. Everyone big wants to get local — Google, Microsoft, Citysearch (IAC), Yahoo, etc.. As the world goes digital and online, traditional media – newspapers. Local TV and radio, are rapidly disappearing from the landscape. They are losing a crucial source of revenue — local advertising (classifieds) — to the Internet and these megaportals. At the same time, these same companies have a great challenge — how do they capture the local ‘from above,” as a top-down play? On the web, everything is driven by reputation. Do we trust this seller on eBay? Well look at his rating. Want to buy a book? How are people reviewing it? How in turn are people rating the reviewers? All of this is important to the local area.

Everyone must decide, do I trust someone working for a multibillion dollar global portal to create content, for local knowledge, or do I trust a local?  What are the best restaurants in a given neighborhood? I will trust a local resident if given the choice. Their informed opinions will be given up freely, out of a desire to share. This is grassroots, not Astroturf, and that is what Friends Of Hardy Arkansas are trying to do and want for Hardy !

With the localization of content, services, and advertisements, with more and more devices GPS enabled, with the growing ability to create local ‘intranets’ for buildings, neighborhoods, towns, cities, via new wireless infrastructure deployments, it will be increasingly easy for communities to segment themselves from the rest of the web, and capture the value that is now otherwise feeding these web behemoths. If Google’s model in creating muniwireless as part of The White Space Coalition depends in no small part on local ads, what is to stop the locals from building their own networks and capturing the ad revenue themselves?

As social computing goes local, as the internet grows pervasive, as everyone is brought onto the grid, muniwireless has a bright future. Cell phones and the new Ipad even offer WiFi connection. Communities will have wireless networks as public amenities. They will serve a number of functions, from the very basic — offering the ability to surf the web, check email, to supporting local businesses through a local community portal with local content and providing better security. In the process, the web will become increasingly localized. As always, and from the beginning, we know the end points, and as always, it’s getting there that matters, the details of it. Who will be the ones trying, failing, and learning?  Who will build these municipal wireless networks? Will it be the large incumbent telecoms, the Verizons and Comcasts of the world? Or will it be people like you and me? If in the end the value of the community network is derived from the activity of the people using it, we know the answer.

The Friends Of Hardy Arkansas are motivated and interested in bringing Free WiFi to the Main Street area of Hardy. We feel it is an important step toward growth in our community and for the business tourist who stop here. In the future if proven sustainable it may even grow outward to cover the whole town – who knows. Just imagine the possibilities. We would love to get your comments about this below. Feel free to share with us.

Cody Maggard & Heather NeSmith Provided by Christian Co. Sheriff's Dept

Two Missing Teens found in Hardy Arkansas. On Friday, June 04, 2010 Police in  Hardy found two teenagers from Ozark who stole one of their parents rental cars and left home. The Christian County Sheriff’s Department says Heather NeSmith and Cody Maggard were found trying to hitch hike their way out of town. Authorities in Arkansas found the two in a truck that had just picked them up just outside of Hardy. The parents were called to pick up the teens to return them home.

The sheriff’s department says the teens left Ozark around midnight Wednesday in a 2010 Cadillac DTS, which a family member had rented. The car turned up in Hardy, Ark., early the next morning but no one reported seeing the children. That’s why the sheriff’s department put out an alert for them. Hardy police got a tip that the teens were in the truck and found it on the way out of town.

This interesting video below was recorded on our very own “FOHA” weather cam that is positioned over our local Lake Sherwood. The camera is used to capture still images for our weather page. However, it also is set to capture motion video when triggered. On the day of April 25, 2010 at 6:28pm, this video was recorded. Is it nothing, or maybe something? Either way it is an interesting clip and we thought is was worth posting for your comments. What is most interesting is how the object makes a sudden almost 90 degree turn at the bottom of its decent. Give us your thoughts below ! One item is very obvious, however in full screen about in the middle you should see another small object suddenly appear and remain stationary which is highlighted in this frozen frame from the video to help you know what your looking for. We suggest you watch the video in FULL SCREEN mode for the best view.

Known first mostly as a session musician, Russell has played with artists as varied as Jerry Lee Lewis, George Harrison, Delaney Bramlett, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Eric Clapton, The Byrds, The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, Tijuana Brass, Frank Sinatra, The Band, Glen Campbell, and The Rolling Stones. With a solo career involving the genres of rock and roll, blues, and gospel music, Russell began his musical career at the age of 14 years in the nightclubs of Tulsa, OK. He and his group “The Starlighters”, which included J.J. Cale, Chuck Blackwell and Johnny Williams,[2] were instrumental in creating the style of music known as the Tulsa Sound. After settling in Los Angeles, he studied guitar with James Burton, and worked sessions with Dorsey Burnette and Glen Campbell.

Becoming a part of Phil Spector’s studio group, Russell played backup for many of the most popular successes of the 1960s, including songs by The Byrds, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Bobby “Boris” Pickett, and Herb Alpert. He also served as Snuff Garrett’s assistant for numerous productions. Russell had his own recording studio built during 1967 and, in a collaboration with Marc Benno, recorded his first LP (Look Inside the Asylum Choir). Read the rest of this entry »

“Why are skateparks important? The answer is obvious to those fortunate enough to have one in their community, while the unenlightened think that they are breeding grounds for trouble: a place where rebellious, outcast kids gather and conspire to commit crimes against traditional activities. This stereotype is not true, of course. And when a skatepark finally gets built in areas where the idea was first met with disapproval, the naysayers quickly realize what a positive impact it has on their communities.-Tony Hawks” Read the rest of this entry »

Again these are just Ghost Tales…or are they??

There’s nothing extraordinary involving Hardy, Arkansas during the day, but this city is run by tormented ghosts of the past. Some of the departed refuse to stay underground in this settlement. Folks who have never spent the night in this settlement will inform you it’s a pack of lies, but there truly are chilling things going down here in Hardy during the night.

These are some of the spooky things that have happened here recently.

A lady with her head and left arm and right leg separated is repeatedly seen rummaging around in trash cans on a Hardy street.

A military uniform marching about lacking a body in it may regularly be made out by Lake Aztec Dam on a dark night gazing at the water. Read the rest of this entry »

So…here is what this particular area is all about. Here we can share our stories of Hardy and the lives we have had and continue to have. We can tell our tales of how, why and what brought us here and the love for Hardy that we all share.

I’ve had the priviledge of falling in love, running a great business and meeting great friends, watching seasons pass, leaves fall and meeting all the wonderful people who live and travel to and through Hardy. What a wonderful place to experience life. I love Hardy and I’m glad that I’m here.
