Food Safety Inspections – Protecting You!

We would like to think that when we purchase food at events that we can be assured that it has been prepared and properly handled in order for it to be safe for us as consumers.  So, how do you know when you attend public open events that the food being served is safe.  That is the job of the local Health Department in your area.

The law requires that at the very least certain minimum standards of safety must be met. Even if the vendor is giving away food because the law states (regardless of charge). The Health Department has rules and regulations including inspections to ensure your safety are in place and are required to be followed. Even for Non-Profit groups, an inspection is allowed even if a permit may not be required.

Khatru Will Be Missed

It is with great sorrow that we must report to all our friends that on Monday May 20th due to an unfortunate accident the well-known KHATRU a Siberian Husky of the Ozark Classic Crafts Mall store passed away.

Anyone who has visited the Ozark Classic Crafts Mall store surely would have been intrigued by this gentle dog who had become not only the store mascot but a true Hardy icon too. If you were a regular visitor to the store you knew you might just hold on to your ice cream cone long enough to let Khatru get the last bite. Our maybe you were bringing him another bandana for him to wear. He had well over 30+ in his collection thanks to visitors like yourself.

A & P Commission Procedures Unclear

We are blessed that our city has a special commission specifically for the Advertisement and Promotions of our City! This is called the Advertisement and Promotions Commission. This is based on a special tax sometimes called a “hamburger tax”. We had requested information from City Hall in regards to theA&P By-Laws and any purchasing and bidding procedures in order to make our readers aware of any special procedures.

Unfortunately, our response from City Hall was not very clear.  What we received was a simple three sentence response on non-letterhead paper that read:

The A&P Commission is not ruled by “by laws”.

Free WiFi On Main Street Hardy – Anyone?

(Originally Published Jun 16, 2010) With the talk from City Hall about bringing WiFi to Dr. Thompson Park we thought we would repost our original story about Free Wifi.

Why even offer Free WiFi (muniwireless) along Main Street in Hardy Arkansas?  The only  thing that retains value is what the local community is willing to invest in terms of their interest and content. If local businesses, organizations, civic groups and schools  in the local community, in short, are willing to create local content for the local network, post local ads, if they see the service as part of the fabric of the community. That is part of the idea of Free muniwirelessWiFi, because our idea – would first point all users to the Main Street Hardy Online Resource website. This then helps promote not only the town but the local merchants and community as well. Is this self serving? Not really, its self promoting of our town ! Besides, if we don’t do it, no one else will.
