New Parking Signage – Almost Ready
The City Council of Hardy Arkansas announced in their regular city council meeting that the installation of the new poles for the soon to be made signs have been placed to help those driving into our city realize that additional parking is available toward the railroad tracks side of Main Street.
It was discussed that as soon as funding through A & P is available they would be looking into purchasing the actual signs to be place on the newly installed poles.
We hope this will help those looking for parking when the Main Street is full, will turn to park instead of driving through our city without stopping.

ACCRTA Comes To Hardy
First, for those who don’t know, ACCRTA stands for Arkansas City Clerks, Recorders and Treasurers Association. The ACCRTA meeting according to the Mayor was a great success. The group had its conference in the area. Highland Assembly allowed the use of there church vans to be able to take the ACCRTA group on a tour of the 4 cities.
“They enjoyed entertainment from Chester Drawers during breakfast and a southern ladies tea at the Sharp county Library”, says the Mayor. Later the group enjoyed some bar-b-que in the Hardy Gym. For the evening a wonderful fish fry and live entertainment was given over at Loberg Park.
Interactions with our Mayor
Below are the back and forth converations with our Mayor and how she responds to a citizen who was requesting the addition of a event to the official Hardy website. If you ever wondered what it takes to get a simple answer with the local government, below are the transcripts of my experience. You will be amazed and surprised at how she handles a individuals request and questions.
It all started with a request on Aug. 5th to please add a city supported event called Junk-N-Jam to the official city website that still on Aug. 16 in the a.m is not on the official city website.
UPDATE: THE CITY WEBSITE ON AUG. 16th FINALLY HAS THE EVENT POSTED
THANK YOU MAYOR
————————————————————————————————————————City Council’s Health Care Benefits
On July 20, 2010 the Hardy city council introduce a resolution which would, eventually, end a controversial benefit extended to the city council. This benefit has been looked down upon by some citizens because it not only gives free health insurance to the city council members but their families too.
The resolution that was proposed was an attempt to remove the health insurance benefit for elected city officials due to budget constraints. Even if the resolution was to pass, those members who currently are covered under the plan would be able to keep it for the current fiscal year.

A Train Runs Through It (Hardy Arkansas)
As we all know, Hardy is a Railroad Town. This year the BNSF is taking its train of 15 restored
passenger cars on a 6,000-mile tour through 13 cities in six states. The train is available for BNSF employees and special guests only. I was an invited guest for a 3 hour ride. The conductor actually came to the loading area and yelled “all aboard” which was a truly nostalgic moment. I chose to ride in the tallest car called Bay View. The windows are all bay curved and the view is fantastic. I sat in the “First Class” section although the whole car was truly first class.
City Of Hardy – Fix Your Website! – Please
Maybe its just me, but it seems that at the very least the City Of Hardy Arkanas’ website should, at a minimum, have a working CONTACT page. I have notified the city..numerous times in the past about this problem on their website and was told it would be fixed.
Today..I once again attempted to request information directly from the City Of Hardy’s website at the www.oldhardytown.net location I still get a submission form error that reads.

Transparent Government = Online Information
The Friends Of Hardy Arkansas (FOHA) believe it is time to begin building a strong movement of citizens demanding
that government information be made available online and in real-time. Full disclosure of public records, laws, meetings available easily for all.
As citizens, we need online, real-time access to government information so that we can be better informed voters and more ably hold government accountable for their actions.
Remember, our local government is not going to give us the data and become more transparent on its own. We must engage with it to make it so. It is our legal right to know the facts. That is now one of the missions of (FOHA).
