Words, Afterwords and Afterthoughts
Its amazing to think that only 4 short years ago, Afterwords Cafe was just a thought and not a reality. This weekend marks the 4th Anniversary of our wonderful cafe. It has been a blast to watch it evolve into the cool place that it now is. Greg and Beth Bess have created our own version of Cheers (no alchohol though), where everyone knows your name and your always welcome. Greg has put together a great staff of young servers who are just terrific. This past Thursday, Afterwords had an open house where friends, music and plenty of food were the ‘bill of fare’. The new Afterwords Menu was rolled out with lots of new food too. Local legend Mike Mcleod serinaded the evening with great tunes.
Hardy RV Park Under New Management
We are excited and happy to report that the prior problems in the past that were reported here in regards to the local Hardy RV park have been corrected. It is nice to see the park cleaned up, neat and ready for campers! In a turn of events the area volunteer firefighters have agreed to take over the management of the park and its upkeep.
Our community has always pulled together so this appears to be just another example of not only volunteers from the fire department pulling together but also working on hopefully generating some funds to help purchase future needed equipment.
The Great ShakeOut – Earthquake Drill
The Great Central U.S. ShakeOut is an eight-state drill spanning much of the central United States. The ShakeOut is being organized for April 28th at 10:15 a.m. Already over 1 million people are expected to participate. Why is it important to do a Drop, Cover, Hold On drill? As with anything, to react quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake, before strong shaking knocks you down–or drops something on you.
We all must get better prepared for major earthquakes, and also practice how to protect ourselves when they happen. The purpose of the ShakeOut is to help people and organizations do both.

Free WiFi On Main Street Hardy – Anyone?
(Originally Published Jun 16, 2010) With the talk from City Hall about bringing WiFi to Dr. Thompson Park we thought we would repost our original story about Free Wifi.
Why even offer Free WiFi (muniwireless) along Main Street in Hardy Arkansas? The only
thing that retains value is what the local community is willing to invest in terms of their interest and content. If local businesses, organizations, civic groups and schools in the local community, in short, are willing to create local content for the local network, post local ads, if they see the service as part of the fabric of the community. That is part of the idea of Free muniwirelessWiFi, because our idea – would first point all users to the Main Street Hardy Online Resource website. This then helps promote not only the town but the local merchants and community as well. Is this self serving? Not really, its self promoting of our town ! Besides, if we don’t do it, no one else will.
Wayne’s World – Tumbling Down
A Sharp County judge says a developer, Wayne Watkins, who returned last week from Mexico to face charges that he defrauded buyers of land in a subdivision must remain in jail until he comes up with $107,000 in cash.
Jonesboro television station KAIT reported that the cash-only bond for 63-year-old Wayne Watkins was set in a hearing Monday at Ash Flat.
Police arrested Watkins Feb. 21 at a Houston airport as he returned from Mexico, where he had lived for four years. Larry Kissee, Watkins’ lawyer, said Watkins was returning to see his seriously ill father, and knew he would be arrested on a 2007 warrant charging him with theft by deception.
